Gary's RV Center

We went to Gary's RV Center open house on the way back from camping at Harbor Hill (more on this campground later). Gary's new facility in Chichester NH (a short drive from exit 15E on I93 in Concord) is wonderful. A friendly sales rep showed us some Keystone Springdale and Sprinter bunk house models (we are considering upgrading now that we have 4 kids).

We dealt with the service department and got EXCELLENT service.

Gary's RV is recommended and they may expand to Nashua and Lebanon.

Harbor Hill

We are off to Harbor Hill this weekend. Cameron's 2nd trip. Hopefully he'll do as good as his first trip to Danforth Bay.

Harbor Hill has gotten good reviews on my web site (despite their lack of activities). Let me know if you have any input. Stay tuned for a full review.

Camping with newborns....

Lauren writes.....

Well we survived... We took Brianne camping for the week at papoose pond. She was 5 weeks when started our voyage. She managed not to wake anyone except for me during those every two hour feedings. I do nurse her but sometimes bottle feed. I found it easier to put the powder formula in a bottle and just add the water when she was hungry. I asked our neighbors if they heard her and they said they didnt. We also had her sleep with us to minimize on the noise!!!

Lauren and her family camps in a popup camper.

Like I said in an earlier post...

Cameron was great to camp with this past weekend. He woke up several times but understood that bottle was coming once you attended to him. The camper was messier this time around though with bottles here and there. Powder is better if you are going out somewhere and just want to mix room temp+ water. Otherwise if you are going to stay put then I probably would go with the pre-mix stuff and not worry about boiling water in the camper. Send me e-mail if you have more input...

We are camping again!

After about a 1+ month break to have the baby... we went camping 4 weeks early! We went up to Danforth Bay this past weekend. Cameron did great -- he woke up at about 3:30 the first night and then 1:30 the next night. He doesn't scream so noone got woken up but dad and mom.

We actually found a less than perfect site at Danforth Bay. Site A6 on Chocura circle is right next to the bath house. There is a loud fan that seems to be constantly running. Luckily both Patty and I were too tired and this did not keep us up. The site was kind of narrow but very long.

We look forward to more camping at Danforth Bay this summer!

Prevent lyme disease

Check out the following links before you go camping. Tics can be found in the deep woods as well as in common areas. My daughter found one crawling her in Lincoln, NH -- which is country like town.

Camping with Baby?

For those of you with infants (like our family now ;->) here are some links on how to feed your baby while camping and preparing for a trip.

http://www.ehow.com/how_4577_feed-baby-camping.html

http://www.ehow.com/how_4572_camping-trip-with.html

I didn't see any tips on how not to wake up other campers with baby crying at 2AM. I guess we will have to figure this one out!

Updated Checklist

I've updated our camping checklist. I noticed that when Patty printed the list, it came out to several pages with a lot of wasted white space. Also it was geared for a popup camper vs. an travel trailer. I've added some additional items to the list. Please let me know if you think of more items to add.

Its a boy!

Our little Cameron came into the world today at 6:49PM.

It was an easy labor for mom up until the pushing -- that was very difficult considering he was 11lbs and 8oz!

Mom and baby are doing well!

Pictures coming to web site soon!

I've updated the web site with a new look. Added more Java script and rollover capability for the pictures. I'll probably make some more updates in the future.

Please let me know if you like it, hate it, or are indifferent!

Thanks!

No baby yet!

Patty is now 5 days late now and still no baby nor is there any signs!

Hopefully we will have it this weekend while you all are out camping on this gorgeous weekend.

It looks like we will be camping in August with a 1 month old baby vs. a 2 month old.

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

I'll post pictures on my web site when the day comes ;->

Anyone know of a good Starcraft dealer

An online reader is looking for a Starcraft dealer....

Please send me e-mail if you have suggestions.

We opened our camper for the first time this year to only be disappointed that the mice got to it. Its a brand new starcraft. We only used it twice last year. Its an Orion. Do you know of any reputable service dealers in RI or MA?

We will have to repair the canvas over one of the beds. The screen and window over the sink and the screen on one bunk end.

We also have a trip planned for the 4th week. Do you think they will be able to fix it and how much does it approx. cost to do this??? Thank You for any help that you can be to us!!!!

Jayco 12SO Lift Problems

An online reader has the following problems with his popup. We did have some problems with our roof when we left the hinges on but nothing I can't think of happening normally....

Send me e-mail if you know a solution or have hints.

The reader writes....

My wife and I just purchased a 1999 Jayco 12SO last week. When we went to go check out the trailer, it lifted with no problems and when we brought it home, I also lifted it up with the crank with no problems. We packed up the trailer for a big trip this coming weekend, and when I was cranking the top down, I tried to lift it up a little to push some of the tenting material under the roof, but it stopped lifting and seemed to jam. I have put the top down all the way, thinking that was the problem, but it still jams after lifting the roof only about three inches. It stops making the clicking noise and it becomes extremely difficult to turn. (I don't want to break anything, so I haven't tried too hard, but it doesn't want to turn at all.) I tried to see if something was stuck to the roof, but I couldn't see anything and I even manually lifted the corners to see if they would all move, which they did. I don't know what to do. I have tried to contact the seller, but they haven't returned my call yet, but I was just wondering if I've done something wrong when I collapsed the trailer.

Please help! Has this happened to you? Did I do something wrong when I collasped the trailer (for the first time)? Thank you for your time and consderation.

Two New Reviews this week

Claire from MA and Rick sent me two new reviews.

Patty is due this week -- time is limited!!! These reviews take a bit of time to prepare but I hope to get them in to the page soon...

Here is a preview....

Greenfield State Park -- Greenfield NH
Claire writes:

The sites are wooded, fairly large and appeared to be quite level. Restrooms are well spaced and clean, although they could stand to vacuum up a few cobwebs. There was only one shower building but it had five shower stalls (meters, 1 quarter for 2 minutes), which could have been cleaner also, but could have been much worse.

The campground featured a lake with a day visitor beach and a separate camper's beach. The beach sloped gradually, so it was great for kids.
At night there was moderate noise from the main road, but probably the individual sites further back would have less.

-------------

Papoose Pond in Waterford, Maine
Rick writes:

The general manager of this campground was very detailed oreintated he is looking for new ideas and is looking at making the improvements that are needed. The staff was very good and freindly. The most impressive thing was that the sites were all raked and the trash was p-up every day at your site. When your looking to book your next trip think about going to papoose pond I don't think you will be disappointed.

New Page

I'm working on reformatting my web site to give it a different look and make it more user friendly.

Camping Security Tip...

Todd writes....

... I was reading your security tips and one came to mind immediately. Bring a whistle. It will not be difficult to draw attention to your campsite if you make some noise.

I'll be adding this to my tip page at some point ;->

Paws in the Park

Claire from MA writes the following. I will post this event to the front page soon...

I'd like to suggest Paws in the Park as a family event for you to post. It's a fundraiser for animal shelters in the area. It's like the Walk for Hunger where you get sponsors for walking your dog. Admission is $10, but is waived if you have pledges for the walk. Children under 12 are free. While not camping related, a lot of campers have dogs and their children would definitely enjoy seeing the dogs.

It's happening this Sunday, June 13, rain or shine at the Bedford VA Hospital grounds. All the pertinent details are on this page:

http://www.saveadog.org/paws2004.asp

There are also vendors, representatives from dog (and sometimes cat) rescue groups. There are agility events, a kids booth, and a parade of adoptable dogs.

Incomplete review of 1997 Thor Prism

Someone sent me an incomplete review of a 1997 Thor Prism 24 ft travel trailer. Only the brand and type was in the review. I won't post incomplete reviews... We need for information on how you like the camper.

If you believe this is incorrect and my form is off kilter e-mail me at NewEnglandCamper@aol.com.

Baby Camping Tip

Linda sends this baby camping tip... I will add this to the tip page soon:

The large, rectangular Rubbermaid that we store some of our camping
gear in doubles as a great bathtub for our baby. :-)

Thanks Linda, Patty and I will be needed this kind of tips soon ;->

Chase Gas Card

Ok... I hate Spam and advertisements but with these high gas prices I'm going to post this one on my blog.

I got an e-mail from Charlie (an old friend from my popup times days) stated that he saved quite a bit( 3% cash back) when purchasing gas with his Chase Gas credit card.

Check it out:

Just came back from our last camping trip...

... as a family of 5.

We all had fun at Autumn Hills. Stay tuned for a full review coming some time next week. Patty did well considering she was 38 weeks pregnant. She did not get out much but just relaxed in the camper.

The mattress pad that we bought at Target helped out somewhat (our camper's mattress is not all that comfortable).

The weather was great! A little chilly on Saturday but not one drop of rain-fall for this week.

Our next trip isn't until August so I'm depending on you all readers for web reviews (even more so) for reviews and input to the site.

Happy Camping!!!

Bob

RV Lawsuit on Fraud - Campers Inn

We bought our camper from Campers Inn of Ayer (in 2002) and was trying for months to get our camper fixed.
I feel bad about folks who have been ripped off from Campers Inn. I'm avoiding the Camper's Inn brand name (these are the brothers of the folks that run the Merrimack and Kingston dealerships).

Check this story out in the Globe:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/05/26/rv_dealership_faces_suit_in_fraud_case/

Lousy Weather

We haven't seen the sun here in New England for what seems like a week now and its cold here too.

I actually have the HEAT on here in the house to get the chill out.

I hope this weekend is better. Its not looking promising but we will have fun camping anyways.

Don't forget to send in your reviews and I'll post them after memorial day.

$50 for a fill up

Saturday I spent $50.00 for the van to fill it up for gas. The price was $2.09 (mid-grade) per gallon. Our van requires the mid-grade otherwise it pings. I estimated it cost me $12.50 to pull the camper 1/2 home (Woodstock to Concord).

A good friend revealed sent me something. Check it out:

http://www.georgewbush.com/Calculator/

Folks, if John Kerry gets elected you can expect a .50 cents increase per gallon.

Just another reason to vote for Bush in 2004 ;->

Well Patty and I towed the camper up to Gary's RV and Center in Chichester, NH on Tuesday. What a nice dealership and service area. Very modern. There old location is adjacent to the new lot (what a difference)! Stay tuned to find out how things went.
